Apukka is a resort in Finnish Lapland focused on the Northern Lights, ice log buildings and snow activities.

Apukka Resort is located north of the Arctic Circle, 15 minutes drive from Rovaniemi and 8 minutes drive from the Santa Claus Village.
Apukka is called the Northern lights center of Rovaniemi. It is an ideal place to see the Northern Lights in the area because the resort is located lakeside and have open panorama view. The Rovaniemi and Santa Claus village lights are quite far away.
To get there by plane:
Helsinki - Rovaniemi daily flights. Flight time - 1h20m. Price from 35€ (Norwegian, Finnair).
Resort is located 12 km from Rovaniemi airport. Transfer or taxi are available from/to the airport for an extra fee and needs to be booked in advance. From Rovaniemi airport to Apukka Resort 15-20€/person/one-way (price 2019).
To get there by train:
Helsinki - Rovaniemi daily trains by VR. Duration - 8-12h. Price from 68€ (Finnish railways VR).
Resort is located 16 km from Rovaniemi railway station. Transfers are available from/to the station for an extra fee and needs to be booked in advance. City transfer 20€-30€/one way (price 2019).
Car rental is recommended to have in the area as the public transport is rare! Car rental companies available in the airport as well as in Rovaniemi city center. Apukka has car rental cooperation partner via: https://www.tujaus.net/tujaushosted/apukka/. All the cars are equipped with winter wheels during snow season.

Aurora cabin is designed to see the sky and have a chance to see the Northern Lights in a privacy. Each cabin is equipped with bathroom (shower and toilet), WiFi, electric fireplace, dining area with electric kettle and minibar, hairdryer. Linen and towels provided.
It is possible to have a private sauna in front of the cabin for an extra charge.

Luxury Lappish glass roofed igloo specially designed for Apukka resort.
KOMSIO means a traditional Sámi cradle, where small children were put to sleep like in a safe, warm nest. Igloo is designed with Lapland ancient culture traditions.

Aurora Wagon is a comfortable warm carriage equipped with glass roof and heating, fridge and bathroom. It can be moved into the forest. Aurora Wagons are specially designed pods for wilderness trips. Exclusively available at Apukka resort!
The Apukka Resort can accommodate 150 guests in total. There are private rooms with shared facilities, apartments, holiday homes and ice cabins available.
Suit to families and small groups up to 7 persons. Apartment sizes 55-75m². Some apartments have lake view. Each apartment has own dinner area and a well equipped kitchen, a flat-screen TV and wireless internet (WiFi).

Cabins are built from logs that are 100% pure ice.
Inside the cabin the temperature stays steady between 0 and -5 C. The night in the Ice Cabin includes guidance and tips for the experience, warm drinks, thick thermal sleeping bags designed for Arctic conditions, reindeer hides, breakfast in the main building and warm reserve dorm-type accommodation with kitchen and WC.
Just a single night reservation recommended in the Ice Cabin as an experience. You can try other accommodation alternatives for the rest of your stay: the aurora cabin, aurora wagon or our comfortable rooms.
Room service is available if asked as an extra service. All the accommodations are within easy walking distance from parking zones and reception. Please ask our staff if you need help with luggages.

Northern Lights.
It is possible to see the Northern Lights from mid-August to the end of April in a dark time.
There is not much light pollution nearby Apukka Resort. Location of the place is next to a big lake with open panorama view.
The Northern Lights are not guaranteed as it is a natural phenomena and it always depends on the current weather.
Apukka Resort uses the Northern Lights Alert service which alerts in real time when the northern lights are really visible! Apukka activities.
Resort offers wide range of activities and provides suitable clothes and all essential information. It is still recommended to have the most suitable and warm clothes you own. You can book activities by emailing or from reception on your arrival. Advance reservation during peak season is recommended.
Transfers are available to/from the Rovaniemi city/Rovaniemi airport. Needs to be booked in advance.
Recommended warm winter clothing: thermal under-layer, warm mid-layer, winter jacket, trousers and winter boots. Hat, gloves and scarf are essential.

Try the most traditional different Finnish sauna types and the Ice Sauna with the guidance of the sauna host. Dip yourself in the deep snow in between the sauna sessions.

Evening ride in a warm carriage with transparent roof. It heads out in the wilderness, far from artificial lights, looking for the Northern Lights. Aurora expert helps with camera settings to best capture the Northern Lights. This excursion is completely focused on the Northern Lights, but you also get to experience the beauty of the pure, snowy forest, darkness, quietness and bonfire. As the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, nobody can give a 100% guarantee to see them.

Meet the huskies of Apukka and try an hour-long safari! You can pet huskies, pose on photos with them and listen to stories about the lives of the huskies. The highlight of the day is the 7–10 km long safari, where you get to be the musher yourself, in other words control the pack of huskies towing the sled.

Chase the Auroras on snowmobiles! Apukka is the prime location for the Northern Lights. Group drives out to a suitable location, and makes a fire to brew some pot coffee and to keep us warm. The guide will explain about the science and myths behind the auroras by the bonfire. Please note: The driver of the snowmobile must be at least 18 years of age and in possession of a valid driver license in EU/Finland. This tour is suitable for adults only.
Apukka Resort suits for Lapland gateway and all-inclusive Lapland holidays. Activities can be tried in one place and the most popular Lapland landmarks are located within 10-15 km from the resort.
Santa office open every day, both winter and summer. Entrance and meeting with Santa - free of charge. No advance reservation needed.
Using of own cameras while meeting Santa is prohibited; professional photos and videos available for a fee. Price in 2019 is from 30€ up to 40-45€ for 6 high resolution photos and a video clip you meeting Santa. No obligation to purchase anything however.
A huge Snow castle right in Santa Claus Village with residents of the Moominvalley. There are Moomin ice sculptures gallery - Moominmamma, Moominpappa and their friends - as five-meter snow and ice sculptures. 50-meter long slide, snow labyrinth, Moominvalley magic forest, fun zone with interactive wall, ice bar and souvenir shop.
Open every day from 9 to 19 throughout the winter season.

Visiting SantaPark is a must-do activity for families with kids! This is an indoor Christmas theme park voted the top Christmas destination in the world. Plan a visit for at least 2-3 hours (usually kids want to stay there for a longer time).
There are Arctic Circle, Ice gallery and Ice bar, Angry birds activity park, gingerbread bakery, Elf workshop, Santa Claus office with real Santa, Magic train, Post office and Elf Show performances.

Luxury and authentic Santa experience. Santa Claus Secret Forest is an exclusive destination where you can experience the magic of Christmas either privately or in small groups.
There are few weekly programs available: Dream of Joulukka, Gingerbread secret of Santa Claus, Search for the Northern Lights with Santa Claus. Santa Claus Secret Forest is a private destination located on private grounds, and is therefore only accessible if you have made a booking in advance.

The Lapland Military Band’s warm-hearted Christmas concert, beloved and popular indeed, will bring us the Christmas spirit this year, too. Soprano Anna-Maria Jurvelin will perform as a visiting soloist. Along with the soloist, the audience will also get to join in accompanied by the professional orchestra.
Each year, Santa leaves Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland to bring Christmas cheer to people all around the globe. Santa Claus gives his speech wishing merry Christmas to the whole world before hopping in his reindeer-pulled sleigh and embarking on his tour. This year, the event will be organized with no audience due to latest corona restrictions. The event will be broadcasted on Facebook by Visit Rovaniemi on December 23rd at 7 PM local time (UTC +2).

The 57th Arctic Lapland Rally in 2022 will be competed on Friday and Saturday the 14-15th of January. The competitors start their arctic adventure on the over 220 kilometres of special stages already on Monday the 10th of January when the reconnaissance period begins. The rally route sees changes for 2022 as over 23% and over 50 special stage kilometres are new to all the drivers. For spectators the biggest change is the new special stage right in the heart of Rovaniemi at the Ounasvaara ski center. Naturally the route also includes beloved stages, such as the familiar final stage of Ristilampi at the remote Finnish Defence Forces training grounds. The brave rivals face endless snowy roads and ice cold temperatures at the mercy of the Lappish wilderness!
Rovaniemi is the hometown of Santa Claus in Lapland and is famous for its reindeer. Every year, at the end of winter, several reindeer races happen in the Rovaniemi area.
